Lots of things have happened to me and Katie Joyner Photography over the past 6 months. It started with the beginnings of opening a new studio in Savannah with a great friend and talented pastry chef. We both wanted a studio/space to do our work, but we were both a little timid at the thought of finding a space to share and then renovate to appear like something that would work for both of us.
No sooner then 2 months later, my husband came home with great news that he was offered a promotion with his company. The downer part was that we would have to move to Atlanta. Wow, how exciting for him, but then I thought – oh goodness, what am I going to do with my business? There was a strain between two strong minded individuals – whose job is more important? The bread winner always wins. But I also thought about the opportunities that lie ahead. Atlanta has so much to offer!!! I was and am excited to grow professionally while living near one of the largest cities in the US. This opportunity also gave me the freedom of quitting my “day job” as a graphic designer. Things seemed to be falling into place, but it was kind of off kilter to have to start my business over in a new and different city.
Fortunately, for me and my Savannah clients, I decided that my commute from the south of Atlanta to Savannah every week or two wouldn’t be that bad. Heck, I love to drive, I was use to driving back to my hometown which was 5 hours away, so 4 wouldn’t be to bad. This would be good time to meditate, think, and catch up on some much needed reading (mind you – listening to books!)
We were fortunate in the fact of being able to sell our home a week before we closed on a new home in Newnan, GA. We made the great move at the beginning of March and now I sit here writing to you thinking that it is mid June and I am still behind! Last year was, to say the least, a bit overwhelming for me. I was working a full time job as a graphic designer, what felt like a full time job as a photographer and full time as a volunteer for a wonderful community organization that I hold close to my heart. I needed a break. It’s amazing what happens when you ask for it! I asked the higher power for help and a much needed break – and that is where I am today – on hiatus from craziness that I called life only several months ago.
So, right now, where am I at? I’m still cleaning up from the years of saying yes to everything. I declared this year to be my year of ‘no’. No to the things that I know are beyond my reach. I miss my hectic life, yes, but am thankful for the time to reflect about life and what it has handed me over the years. I’m thankful for the time to concentrate on the thing that I love so much – my passion for photography.
It’s time for a change and I’m excited to see where it will take me. Savannah, I will be back! We always will call Savannah home and hopefully we will be back in the next several years. Don’t hesitate to call or email me about a session in Savannah – I love a good road trip! But that also means that I’m expanding my territory and am available for most of Georgia including south Atlanta – Newnan is my home now! I’m available for weddings with free travel anywhere in NC, SC and GA as well!
So, now – it’s time to get my life together, blog more, work enough, love a lot and concentrate on what the world has in store for me!
